About Zoely

Zoely is the only combined pill in Australia to use natural estradiol rather than synthetic ethinylestradiol. It is not currently PBS-listed and is available privately.

Zoely is a combined oral contraceptive containing 17β-oestradiol 1.5mg (a natural oestrogen) and nomegestrol acetate 2.5mg. Unlike most contraceptive pills which use synthetic ethinylestradiol, Zoely uses a form of oestradiol that is identical to the oestrogen naturally produced by the ovaries.

The natural oestrogen in Zoely may be associated with a more favourable metabolic profile compared to ethinylestradiol-containing pills. Zoely follows a 24/4 regimen, which tends to produce light and infrequent withdrawal bleeds — some women experience amenorrhoea, particularly after the first few months.

Zoely is PBS-listed and represents a modern approach to hormonal contraception. It is particularly well-suited to women who prefer a pill with natural oestrogen or who are concerned about the metabolic effects of synthetic oestrogens.
